
You are kindly invited to visit Idrija and discover the treasures of the oldest mining town in Slovenia, its history and the contemporary life-style. You will be taken throught the streets of Idrija, shown the main attractions, told many an interesting story about it and about the miners.
After the tour of the town centre you will either visit the
tourist mine Anthony's Shaft or
the Municipal museum Idrija in the mining castle Gewerkenegg, the best European museum of technical and industrial heritage in 1997. Then it will be t

ime for lunch, a chance to taste the
local speciality – idrijski žlikrofi with mutton gravy called bakalca.
After lunch you will visit the famous
wooden water-wheel Kamšt with a diameter of 13.6m, which used to drive the water pumps in the mine shafts. There you will also see a collection of
restored mine locomotives,
the water channel Rake which led the neccessary water onto the driving wheel Kamšt, as well as a small but abundantly planted
botanical garden, dedicated to J. A. Scopoli, a famous botanist and the mine physicial from the mid-18th century.
Your visit to Idrija will finish after the visit to the
Lacemaking school of Idrija (or
International centre of Idrija Lace) , where

you will see the exhibition of handmade bobbin lace of the students who learn to make lace at the Lacemaking school, and the process of making lace will be shown to you, too.
